Because we are in the process of filming and trying to put the documentary together, here is our storyboard for the film so you can get an idea on what is to come and where the videos posted so far come into play:
Scene 1 – Opening: a youtube video called “LSU Football 2008 – Popularity (season highlights)” ,which shows clips of players on the field, campus shots, and student body at the games and on campus; while clip is running there will be a voiceover saying “So for four years you enjoy all aspects of college, especially Saturday Nights in Tiger Stadium with thousands of your closest friends. Your mind is far from the worries and stresses of insurance and if you are going to be covered upon graduation. What if you are? What if you are not?”; then screen goes black and the title is shown – “To be Insured or Not Insured: That is the Question”
Scene 2 – a youtube video is shown called “MVI 0039” which shows a LSU graduation ceremony with the graduates being called to walk across the stage; while clip is running the voiceover will be saying “The day we look so forward to – no more books, no more tests – complete freedom! But is it true freedom or is another pile of worries waiting outside?
Scene 3 – Opens with mounds of bills falling onto a kitchen table; college student sitting at the table, going through the bills with utter frustration and anger asking “WHY?? Why all this? What do I do? What can I do?”; interview number one takes place – ask college student questions such as “Why the anger?, What are your worries?, Do you have a job? And if you do are you insured by them or on own? Or are you unable to get insured and why if so?
Scene 4 – interview number two takes place – interview with parents; will ask questions like “What was your experience with insurance coverage when you graduated college?, What will you do to prepare your own children?, What problems did you find then and find now?, Costs?”; also show clips of parents in insurance companies and calling companies for information
Scene 5 – will show footage of insurance companies (outside of building, hopefully inside too); also show clips of insurance company TV ads to show competition among the companies and show how they project themselves to be the cheapest or the best deals; the voiceover will be “So who holds the power? Insurance companies – they decide your fate of being or not being insured.”
Scene 6 – this is where interview number three takes place; the interview will be with an insurance worker; will ask this person questions like “What does a college student have to do to be insured? What options do they have if they are turned down? What qualifications do they have to have?”
Scene 7 – footage of students walking on the LSU campus; the voiceover will say “But what if you are one of the lucky ones? What if you are already insured or have insurance waiting for you upon graduation? Or what if its provided for you? What if you are considered to be one of the “special” ones?”
Scene 8 – youtube of Brandon LaFell playing football – video called “LaFell Blindside Hit”; voiceover saying “Take football players for example – their insurance is provided for them. That’s right – no worries for them”; interview number four with Brandon Lafell; ask him questions such as “What kind of insurance plan is provided for you as a football player?, How does it feel to be covered and not have the worries? How long are you covered? What about injury – what happens? Is this type of plan for all sports or just football and the other “popular” sports?”
Scene 9 – footage of minimum wage jobs (such as Subway, Arby’s, Izzos, etc.); voiceover will be saying “So what about the rest us? You know, the ones who have to work and hope to either find insurance or the other hope – not get injured at work or ever get sick. Why can one person be covered and the next one not?”; if time allows we will show clips of students working these jobs and maybe ask them some questions
Scene 10 – have clips of the LSU Health Center, people inside getting treatment and other local health clinics; using these clips to show how students have to turn to open health clinics to get treatment when need be because of insurance issues; voiceover saying “For many students – they count on the next to nothing health care services provided by their schools or the local 24 hour health clinic units down the street.”
Scene 11 – looking at a possible interview here with doctors or nurses at the LSU health center or the local health clinics in town; waiting on call backs to see if filming and interviewing is ok
Scene 12 – finale – the closing of the documentary; show clips of students, graduations, workers, companies, clinics, etc. (montage); voiceover saying “Although new found freedom is exciting, we are still plagued with thoughts of the “insurance hangover” – you know, the headache that one gets with the troubles and woes given by insurance companies. We ask you – are you willing to be one of those who suffers or do you have the fight in you?”
